Coyoacan is a wonderful part of town, about 5 miles south of central Mexico City — widely known as the home of legendary Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Kelly and I decided to spend most of the day here. We were planning on biking there but woke up to 40 degree temps so we hopped into an Uber instead.

Ciclovía
We couldn’t be more pleased to find out that Mexico City has a Ciclavía — every Sunday. This means that the city shuts down a 40 km loop of major thoroughfares around the city for non-motorized traffic. That’s about a 25-mile loop to you and me.
Mexico City, Wow!
Staying Flexible
When we first starting making plans for our trip, we decided to put less pressure on ourselves by reserving airlines and lodging for the first three stays of our journey — a week in Yelapa, Christmas in San Miguel de Allende, followed by New Years in Mexico City, and then slowing the pace and staying flexible for future stops. Well, the first month didn’t quite work out as planned.
Chillin' in San Miguel de Allende
Well, we’re here in San Miguel! A place that Scott and I both love and have talked about visiting together since we met. We love its restaurants, art galleries, culinary markets and classical Spanish architecture. There’s also a large expat community here, so there are numerous English-speaking art and cultural events. Unfortunately…
Yelapa and Beyond
Hóla from Yelapa
Yelapa was the perfect place for us to start our trip. Scott and his daughters had been here before and loved it. He knew the vibe would be low-keyed and primitive; a perfect pace for us after four months of home renovations, open houses, garage sales, wrapping up work commitments, packing and saying goodbye to family and friends. We were beyond exhausted so he knew our first destination needed to be low energy.
Saying Good-Bye
Without a doubt saying goodbye to all of our wonderful friends has been hard. At the same time, we are overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from everyone. It would be so much harder to leave if everyone said we were crazy. Saying good-bye to a house full of memories is happening today.
