Without a doubt, Oaxaca is about food. Molé is king but there are so many other choices. We wandered into the local Mercado de Noviembre yesterday, recommended by one of the travel blogs we follow, and found this wonderful chaos of smoke and meats.

We couldn’t be more pleased to find out that Mexico City has a Ciclavía — every Sunday. This means that the city shuts down a 40 km loop of major thoroughfares around the city for non-motorized traffic. That’s about a 25-mile loop to you and me.

Yelapa was the perfect place for us to start our trip. Scott and his daughters had been here before and loved it. He knew the vibe would be low-keyed and primitive; a perfect pace for us after four months of home renovations, open houses, garage sales, wrapping up work commitments, packing and saying goodbye to family and friends. We were beyond exhausted so he knew our first destination needed to be low energy.
